It's hard to believe it's December and 2022 is coming to a close. Celebrate the season and embrace Winnipeg's wintery weather on the ice! Here's where to go figure skating in Winnipeg this holiday season.
The Forks
There are many reasons why The Forks is such a popular tourist destination in Winnipeg -- year round. In winter, one of those reasons is great ice skating. Hit the river trail to skate down the Assiniboine River this winter. There are also plenty of places to skate in Arctic Glacier Park. Lace up and skate along trails, or hit the rink under the canopy or the CN Stage Rink. The Forks is a beautiful place to skate at night as there are majestic lights strung up in its trees.
Harbour View Recreation Complex
Head to Kilcona Park to enjoy this pristine skating rink that's surrounded by walking paths, a frozen lake, and trails perfect for cross country skiing.
Susan Auch Oval
Ok, you like figure skating, but do you love speed skating? The Susan Auch Oval is calling your name. Located outside the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex, you can enjoy run of the mill public skating here or speed skate during dedicated time slots with other aficionados.
Riley family duck pond and river trail
Venture to the middle of Assiniboine Park to enjoy its large duck pond. It's the perfect place to skate and enjoy the nearby twinkling lights. If you're up for more of a challenge, head out to the Portage Avenue entrance of the park to hit the Assiniboine river trail.
St. Vital Park
Whether you're a kid at heart or you have kids to skate with, make a day of skating and tobogganing at St. Vital Park this winter. Its giant duck pond is the perfect spot to skate, while its Manitoboggan structure is a great place to toboggan. It features two toboggan slides, a ramp and a treetop lookout. Your inner child will thank you.
